Abstract

The article discusses a painting by Swedish painter Elias Martin of the Aspa Ironworks in the central Swedish province of Närke. It is noted that Martin's artistic output from 1780s and the 1790s featured scenes form the 18th-century Swedish rural ironmaking estates, which were executed in several techniques, such as oils, watercolours, drawing and engraving. The painting was titled "Aspa Ironworks" and was acquired by the Nationalmuseum. The major influence in Martin's depictions of the rural ironmaking estates was country-house portraiture.
