Abstract

The article presents the result of the study which focuses on the process controls of different indicators on the statistical moments of the mean annual flood (MAF), coefficient of variation (CV) and skewness (CS) of the maximum annual flood records of 459 catchments in Australia. The analysis reveals that the MAF and CV are correlated with indicators characterizing the hydro-climatic condition of the catchments such as annual precipitation, long term evaporation and base flow index. Moreover, the flood moments in the catchments are not correlated with static catchments attributes but by the catchments moisture state.
