Abstract
- The article presents commentary on the lasting popularity of the American Civil War in contemporary fiction. The rise of the historical novel genre in 20th-century American literature as a vehicle for addressing past conflicts and social issues is discussed. The novel "The March," by E. L. Doctorow, is particularly analyzed in this regard.
