Abstract
- The article discusses Great Britain's Working Time Directive, the exemptions from this Directive, and the efforts of the Government to keep their opt-out from it. It states that the directive is designed to protect the health and safety of workers by limiting the average working week to 48 hours over a 12-month period. The number of people working over 48 hours per week, the physical and psychological effects of long hours, and the arguments and likely outcome of the issue, are also discussed.
