Abstract
- This article describes economic conditions in France during the early part of the 18th century. King Louis XIV's government was hindered by inefficient tax collections, heavy military expenditures and an increasing debt. Currency manipulation also contributed to a recession in 1709. Economic problems plagued France for decades contributing to the French Revolution.
