Abstract
- The purpose of this research was to report the posterior movements of the mandible occurring during normal opening and closing, during the swallowing cycle, and with and without the aid of an appropriate retractor. The possibility of retrusive movement from the intercuspal occlusal position during swallowing has been hypothesized in people with clinically normal occlusion, but neither the frequency with which this movement exists nor the vector of this movement has been defined.
