Abstract: The article discusses the use of ceramics in personnel armor. Sintered alumina and hot pressed boron carbide were primarily used as the ceramics of choice for armor. Continued improvement of armor ceramic performance will be required in the evolution of ballistic threats on the battlefield. The relationship of material properties to performance in armor applications is examined.
