Gender, identity, mobility: an introduction to the annual conference edition of the British Association for South Asian Studies.

The article examines papers presented at the 2008 Annual Conference of the British Association for South Asian Studies. A number of topics were covered including the causes of tribal violence in the Andaman Islands, nationalism and ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka and the study of India in the twentieth century.
