Abstract
- The article explores conflicts between white, colonial settlers working as farmers and miners in Zimbabwe between 1903 and 1939. The importance of natural resources including land, timber, and water to both groups of settlers are examined and the exclusion of native Africans from land holding the most natural resources is discussed. The historical background of the farmer-miner dispute, the legislative support of the mining industry, and the reaction of the colonial administration to ongoing problems are also discussed.
