Abstract

The article focuses artist Steven Shearer and his works. It states that Shearer's subject matter centers on youth, alienation and violence, and his paintings and drawings of shaggy-haired young men in silver point or red pencil crayon or oil reminds of the Gothic imagery and Dickensian street urchins. It mentions that the subjects of his paintings, which borrow stylistically from Edvard Munch and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, are said to be androgynous. It relates that Shearer's works explores the realms of the invisible, the forgotten and the imperfect.
