Abstract

A section from chapter 2 of the book "The Columbia History of Western Philosophy," edited by Richard H. Popkin is presented. It focuses on the life and works of Abraham Cohen de Herrera, who is said to be the most philosophical of Kabbalistic writers. He was born in Florence, Italy to a wealthy family, who became important financial functionaries for the Duke of Tuscany. It notes that his most important work is the book "Puerta del cielo," which provides a philosophical exposition of kabbalistic thought.
