Abstract

The article offers poetry criticism of the poem "Ode To Himself," by Ben Jonson, which the author points out was written after the failure of Jonson's play "The New Inn." It focuses on the influence of the Roman lyric poet Horace on Jonson, particularly Horace's work "Epistles." Several parallels between the two poems are examined, with particular focus on the poems' depiction of the performance of drama on the stage.
