Abstract

Conventional methods of organophosphate (OP) pesticide analysis have several disadvantages; some of them can be overcome by the use of biosensors. This paper deals with studies on different immobilisation methods for biosensor applications. Acetylcholine esterase (AChE) was immobilised using two different membranes in order to construct a sensitive biosensor for the detection of OP pesticides. Amongst tested methods of immobilisation a co-cross-linking method of immobilisation using cellophane membrane gave the best results for the detection of the OP pesticide, paraoxon, in the range of 0.4-2 ppm with an analysis time of 15 minutes.
