Abstract
- The article presents a monthly review of the political and economic developments in the Netherlands as of October 2008. The Christian Democratic Appeal Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende had trouble defending the 2009 budget which was released in September 16, 2008. The budget contains €2.5 billion tax cuts, and the government has prioritized the maintenance of purchasing power for consumers. It also contains measures to increase participation in the labor market.
