Abstract
- The article focuses on the role of Cardinal Newman in the origins of Victorian skepticism. According to the author, an effort has been made to connect Newman with those modern theologians who argue that doubt is a necessary component of faith. He adds that the most notable instance of Newman's skepticism is to be found in his oft-repeated insistence on the dogmatic principle in religion.
