Abstract

The article presents a comparative analysis of population ageing in urban and rural areas of two European countries namely England and Wales, and Poland, over the last three census intervals. It notes that the comparisons are based on the analysis of statistics from the last four censuses in the said countries. Results has identified population growth in England and Wales' rural areas and in Polish gminy. It states that the population ageing in the areas of England and Wales occurred earlier, while Poland sped up in the number of elderly people on recent intercensal period. The population ageing reflects from socio-economic adjustments and demographic and political issues. Charts are also presented.
