Chapter LIII of the book "Ralph the Heir" is presented. It relates that Thomas Neefit's obsession caused distress and shame to his household. Polly decided to bring reason to her father with her fiance Ontario Moggs present under their roof. She presented him as her husband-to-be to Thomas and pressed her father to accept her choice. Thomas finally conceded to her wishes. Polly wrote to Squire Ralph about her father's change of heart to which he gladly replied and announced his betrothal to Gus Eardham.
