Abstract

The article discusses the spatial and temporal properties of U.S. avant-garde stage director and playwright Robert Wilson. A physical means of organization and patterning which constitutes Wilson's theater as an artistic/aesthetic translation of contemporary intellectual thought is suggested. The theory of relativity of German-born theoretical physicist Albert Einstein is explored in relation to Wilson's manipulation of time through spatial metaphors. Other relativistic techniques explored by Wilson are also examined.
