Abstract

The article presents an examination into the Confucian philosophy of Chinese poetry as expressed within the tale of "the Cry of the Osprey." The traditional hermeneutics of Chinese poetry criticism are compared with the analysis of the excavated bamboo manuscript of "Confucius's Comments on the Poetry," from the Warring States era, outlining various methodological challenges in the scholastic and archaeological interpretation of the work.
