Abstract

The author comments on a paper by Dorothy Bishop on epileptic dysphasia which examined outcome in relationship to the age of onset. According to the author, Bishop's paper drew attention to two key aspects of the disorder and these were its heterogeneity and the initially counter-intuitive finding that a younger age of onset appeared to be related to a poor prognosis for language recovery. The author stresses that Bishop's interest in the detail of the language disruption is not just of theoretical importance.
