Abstract: Chapter XXXIII of the book "The Battle Of The Strong: A Romance of Two Kingdoms" by Gilbert Parker is presented. It explores the condition of Vier Prison, the dungeon where Elie Mattingley was detained while emphasizing on the man hunt for Olivier Delagarde as traitor. It highlights the salvation of Mattingley from execution when he was strangled than being hanged which come as a result of the substitution of the rope to be used at the hanging by Dormy Jamais the night before.
