Abstract

Single-gene disorders are caused by mutations of specific genes in the human genetic material.Polymorphic changes are variations in the genetic material that do not cause disease but may increase an individual's susceptibility to a particular disease.X-linked disorders are caused by an inheritance of a mutant gene found in the X chromosome.Common diseases of adults, such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, diabetes, and some congenital malformations, are not inherited as a single-gene disorder or a chromosomal abnormality.
