Abstract
- The article explores the reasons behind the spread of discrimination in the labor markets of Latin America. Latinobarómetro, a primary opinion survey in the region, explored these perceptions for representative samples of the population. Surveys conducted asked Latin Americans why people in their country are not treated equally. Some respondents reasoned poverty as the basis for unequal treatment. They also cited lack of education and lack of connections as the basis for inequality. Interpreting the results, it indicated that Latin Americans consider economic factors more important than social factors in explaining unequal treatment.
