Abstract

Vulvodynia is a condition exclusive to women and involves mostly burning, rawness, and itching of the external genitourinary tract in the absence of obvious concomitant clinical pathology. Vulvodynia often results in painful intercourse. Symptoms impact daily activities and negatively affect quality of life, often with significant economic and psychosocial costs to patients. There are many potential etiologies of vulvodynia. Uncontrolled studies have examined the use of oral, topical, and injection medical therapy as well as physical therapy. Surgical outcome for vestibulitis is favorable, but this should only be considered after all other treatment options have been break exhausted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
