Abstract

This article discusses the role of tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRACP) isoforms 5a and 5b in the development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The possibility that TRACP 5a and 5b can act as biochemical markers for inflammation and bone degradation in patients with RA is noted. Measurements of the effect of RA are compared to those of bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP) and C-telopeptides of type-1Collagen (ICTP), and cartilage glycoprotein-39 (YKL-40).
