Abstract
- This article discusses the Atlantic world perspective in teaching American colonial history in South African colleges. The comparative history of American racism and South African apartheid is described as one approach to the study of American history. While American approaches to studying U.S. history from a global perspective, such as "Rethinking American History in a Global Age" edited by Thomas Bender, are lauded, questions about the the imperial heritage of the U.S. remain to be answered.
