Abstract
- The author reflects on the problem of leadership turnover facing health care organizations in the U.S. and offers suggestions on how to address the issue. The direct costs of turnover include severance pay and recruitment fees and expenses. He stresses the need for leaders to be in agreement about the skills and type of leader needed by the organization prior to the initiation of the recruitment process. He also urges hospitals to create a reasonable work/life balance for their leaders.
