Abstract

The article explores the financial implications of the rising level of the Devils Lake in North Dakota for the U.S. government at all levels. It relates that the lake has risen 25 feet over the past decade and a half. Local, state and federal governments have spent more than $500 million for the repair of roads, for relocating homes and other infrastructure to protect the city of Devils Lake in line with possible flood problems. It describes the additional spending essential for flood protection in the area.
