Abstract

The article discusses the importance of physical activity and sports to older men and their implications in the development and preservation of the masculine self-image in later life. It states that physical degeneration and clinical endpoints for diseases are some of the consequences identified due to lack of older men to engage in those activities. Engaging in what is socially and culturally fit as being masculine, physical activity, and sport provide aging men the chance to affirm their masculinity in addition to making them feel empowered about dealing in health-related behaviors.
