Abstract
- The article discusses contemporary policing issues affecting the mentally ill both in Australia and in an international context. Despite the problems associated with police in responding to EDP the general consensus seems to be that in most cases law enforcement officers do a difficult and stressful job in a professional and humane manner. It also illustrates cases in which emotionally disturbed persons (EDP) also seek to place themselves in situations they hope to be killed by the police.
