Accordingly, a total of 3,172 women from Africa and men who have sex with men from the U.S. and Peru were HIV-1 negative were randomised to receive the drug twice daily or placebo for 12-18 months. It found association of aciclovir with a 47% reduction in the overall incidence of genital ulcers.
