Abstract

The article features the attributions of the two landscape paintings of Elias Martin in Stockholm, Sweden. In summer of 1998, the facility received a legacy from the artists entitled "Romantic Landscape," which originated during his first stay in England. The painting is distinct from other paintings which the facility holds because it manifests how two main strands in the history of landscape painting merged in Martin's pictorial world while he was in England. In autumn of 1998, another work of art by Martin was acquired by the facility, "Archipelago Landscape," made in watercolour and gouache that was produced at the time he return to Sweden in 1780. The artwork details an archipelago landscape in which a glistening expanse of water, interspersed with rocks and islets were shown.
