Abstract
- This article discusses academic culture and the efforts and technology used to recreate historic academic events in a virtual setting. Lisa Snyder, an associate director of outreach and operations for the University of California in Los Angeles' (UCLA) Experiential Technologies Center, and the Urban Simulation Team at UCLA, are virtually recreating the World's Columbian Exposition, which took place in Chicago, Illinois, in 1893. The article explains that the exposition showcased art, architecture, technology, and commerce. Aspects of the exhibition will be recreated using similar technology to that used in video games likes SimCity, Grand Theft Auto, and Second Life.
