Abstract

The article presents a geographical research which examines some of the characteristics of the migrants of British New Towns in 1970. It is stated that there are two developments in recent years which have tended to focus attention on British New Towns. One of these is the increasing attention being paid to the inner city in the wake of both 1981 riots and the 1981 Census, and the decision of the government to wind up some of the older New Town Development Corporations and turn in their functions to the respective District Councils. Accordingly, the effects of more diversified economic structures in New Towns resulted in rising unemployment rates, and might have some effects on the level of skills of the migrants.
