Abstract
- The authors discuss the approaches that they used in developing their curricula for teaching students at the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago, Illinois. One of the teachers says that working with students requires a purposeful effort, which involves a deliberate and careful attention to what the students would ask. Another teacher has come to realize that the motivation for creating a new philosophy for the teaching of students seemed to be a reaction to current educational practices that they felt detrimental to the promotion of the qualities needed to engage students in purposeful lives.
