Abstract

The article offers information on the trial on DDT, which took place in Washington, D.C. from August 1971 to March 1972. The Examiner was Edmund M. Sweeney, appointed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It is said that the campaign against DDT was pursued by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and its collaborators. It is cited that the charges against DDT include the allegations that DDT would end photosynthesis in the oceans and would cause the extinction of species of raptorial and fish-eating birds, and that DDT would exterminate various marine species. EDF claimed that DDT was a carcinogen and should be banned under the Delaney Clause of the Food Additives Law.
