Isolation and Characterization of 63 Microsatellite Loci for the Abalone, Haliotis midae.

The article offers information on Haliotis midae. It is an important species within the South African fisheries industry, having an output of nearly 750 tonnes in 2005. It is not yet domesticated, and few breeding programs have been undertaken. Molecular work on the species has been limited to population structure studies and some percentage analyses. At present 11 polymorphic microsatellite loci have been reported for Haliotis midae. The article reports the characterization of a further 63 microsatelite loci that will facilitate future molecular studies and breeding programs.
