Abstract

The article presents a study assessing potential adverse reactions to allogeneic whole blood donations by those aged 16 and 17 compared to older blood donors. The setting and design of the study which collected data from nine American Red Cross blood donation centers is detailed. Researchers measured the rate of systemic and phlebotomy-related donor complications per 10,000 collections, mostly from high school blood drives. Results revealed a higher incidence of blood donor-related complications among younger donors.
