Abstract

The article presents the results of the study obtained by the use of penetrometer in testing the soil hardness of the shore at Whitstable, Kent, in England. The study suggests that the layers of soil surface are composed of two components identified as the ridges and troughs. The ridges are softer than the troughs and the troughs accommodate less water than the exposed ridges. It also conveys the result that the seasonal cycle of changes in soil hardness during the period of exposure do not rely on temperature.
