Abstract

The article offers information on the research carried out in the field of hydrobiology, both freshwater and marine, in the Arctic region of Canada. According to the article, the Canadian Arctic Expedition from 1913 to 1916 was a pioneer of the country's research in that area. Information is also provided on the other early expeditions and research programs in that area. The author marks the period spanning from 1928 to 1946 as the second phase in the development of the same research and the period after that is classified by him as the modern phase. Information is provided on the individual research projects undertaken in a chronological order with emphasis on the work done by the Canadian Fisheries Research Board.
