Roll Out That Red Carpet.

The article traces the history of lesbian literature and the Lambda Literary Awards. Naiad Press was the first publisher to release lesbian novels in 1973. In 1989, the Lambda Rising Bookstore in Washington D.C. established the award to honor lesbian literature. During its first year, an Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) category was included to accommodate the large literature on AIDS. In support of the awards, the Golden Crown Literary Conference, which focuses on lesbian literature, was also started.
