Abstract

The article discusses the promotion of well-being through music education. Accordingly, the paper examines the way in which education in Great Britain is constructed around the notion of passing on received wisdom. It suggests that education should be for life, and in this case, it should be associated with the use of music as a tool for well-being. This means exploration of subjugated ways of knowing that challenge Western value systems. Even though the notion that education is primarily enculturation into a particular culture has dominated the thinking behind the paradigms in the Western world, these have been regularly opposed by philosophers of education who have favored a more person-centered approach.
