Abstract
- The article focuses on the formation of the National Catholic War Council in the U.S. in August 1917. The Council functioned as a highly effective medium in every phase of Catholic participation in the war effort through providing material assistance to chaplains serving with the troops. With its success, the Council's name was changed to the National Catholic Welfare Council (NCWC) to become the main organizational agency of the Church.
