Abstract

The article examines the attempts of advertising agencies and corporate marketers to capitalize on the growth of so-called "social media" on the Internet, which includes online social networks and the video Web site YouTube. The vast audience for these sites makes them an appealing target for marketers, but there is no consensus on how best to reach it. Marketing executives note there are as yet no reliable metrics for measuring the audience or how advertising affects it.
