Abstract

This essay focuses how Japanese artist Yasuo Kuniyoshi tried to prove his U.S. allegiance by aiding the U.S. propaganda during World War II in a variety of ways. These included his creation of more than a dozen designs for anti-Japan posters for the Office of War Information (OWI). In this crucial project, he tried to express both his abhorrence of Japan's militarism and his own Americanness to distinguish émigré Japanese like himself from the wartime enemy.
