Abstract

The article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of running multiple protocol through a single array controller. Multiprotocol arrays support block- and file-based storage through a single controller. Applications of multiprotocol arrays include NAS for file-based information and Fibre Channel (FC) or Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCI)-attached block-based storage for databases and other transactional applications. The article explains how multiprotocol arrays differ from single-protocol arrays in terms of performance, prices, ease and management of other features.
