Abstract
- Chapter 2 of "The Life of William Ewart Gladstone," Book 4, is presented. It highlights the political career of Gladstone in Great Britain in 1853. It was in this year that he was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer and delivered his first budget speech, wherein he called for income tax cuts, repeal of the soap tax and reductions in taxes on tea and advertisements.
