Chapter 1: A French Lugger.

Chapter 1 of the book "The Project Gutenberg EBook of No Surrender" is presented. It presents an overview of the family of James Stansfield, a resident of Netherstock and an organizer of smuggling business, who had two daughters and three sons. Stansfield smuggled goods at the Poole and the adjacent harbours unnoticed by the revenue officers. The French boat Henriette is the one which carried the goods to its destination and such transactions were carried on for some years with no suspicion.
