Abstract

This article presents the results of a clinical trial that compared two drug-eluting stents used in heart patients. Stent implantation has reduced the mortality rate of patients with coronary artery obstructions and the goal of drug-eluting stents is to reduce neointima formation by using antiprofilerative drugs built into the stent. This study chose to compare stents that are sirolimus-eluting to those that are paclitaxel-eluting. The study did not find a significant difference in adverse cardiac events between the two stents nor did they differ much in thrombosis rates.
