Abstract

The article explores the impact of the tourism sector on the economic development of Cape Verde. The country's terrorism has been tagged as the driver of its economic growth with a significant increase of 40 percent on arrivals between 2002 to 2007 and the doubling of accommodation capacity to 11,000 beds since 2000. In response to this trend, the government starts working on a master plan to anticipate possible weaknesses in accommodation. The author states that Sal is the main point of tourist-related development in Cape Verde as it remains to be the only island in the country with international air access.
